Dublin Central
Could this be the partying capital of the world ?
dunci1 asked:

I am planning to move to Dublin with my family and our 2 ridgebacks. I heard that rhodesian ridgeback has been specified by law as a dangerous breed in Ireland.
How does it look like in real life – am I likely to get into troubles if I take them for a walk (on leash) to some local park and let them play (off leash) on some safe spot away from traffic and other people?
Thanks for any info.

I don’t know the law about dangerous breeds in Ireland, but I do travel to Ireland on a regular basis, there are leash laws there and they do enforce them. So bottom line when going to a country obey the law. Maybe you should call the Irish embassy and ask , they are there to help.

I didn’t know what your dog looked like until I looked it up and they are so cute. I’m sure you are a responsible dog owner and have socialized and loved that dog and it’s sad you won’t completely be able to enjoy things other dog owners take for granted but someday when it happens to their breed of dog then they will try to do something but it will probably be to late.

Have just googled banned breeds in Ireland and it does in fact state that ridgebacks are banned in Dublin, if you take your dogs over there they will be siezed without a doubt and very possibly put to sleep, try to rehome them before you move.

    ADDED…….. missed this bit

The City of Dublin has banned eleven different dog breeds from Dublin City Council properties – meaning public housing – according to a report in Ireland.com

So it looks as if they are not COMPLETELY banned after all, don’t know where you stand with that, maybe try looking here ……..

yes your life probably would be doomed with them
here you are not allowed walk the dogs without a muzzle forget about leaving them of the lead you will not be able to
and most certainly not in a park . you would get away with leaving them off if you go into the forest areas away from people otherwise you will get reported .

i live in the countryside and have a rottie who is 9 and people act all scared off her and she is not cross at all in matter of fact too friendly (guard dog yeah right !)

so in the dublin city in the suburbs you can imagine the amount of people you will have to deal with i am afraid

what are there temperment like i know what they look like and that but never met an owner of one

hi I live in Dublin, and this ban has really not come into effect it only applies to Dublin City Council housing areas and some parks run by the council. Dublin is a great place for dogs with loads of parks you can walk them off leash. Where I walk my dog, there are many of the listed dangerous breeds playing quite happily (off leash).

The only thing you will get in trouble for is not picking up after the dogs. Dublin City Council just run a small area in Dublin, so you have nothing to worry about.
