Dublin Central
Could this be the partying capital of the world ?
Silvia D asked:

So, I’m having this connecting flight with a stop in Dublin. I have to stay there for the whole night. So I just wanna make the most of it. How much a cab is gonna charge me to the city center? And where is it best (and also safe) to go and have some fun in Dublin.
Thank You !!!
I just wanted also to know how long is the drive gonna take till the areas mentioned? And also, how to recognize the bus? Does it stop at the airport?

    A cab ride will cost you between 20-25euro to go from the airport to the city center. A cheaper option would be to take the blue AirCoach bus which costs 12euro for return ticket (7euro for single ticket).

    Dublin city is vibrant, lively and pretty safe. If you’re in around Temple Bar and Grafton St area (e.g. Dawson St has several popular nightspots including Cafe en Seine and Samsara, on Wicklow St there’s International Bar that hosts comedy night etc), there are plenty of places you can go.

    * Update *

    It takes about half an hour to get in by the AirCoach (the taxi maybe about the same time, since the AirCoach doesn’t stop anywhere between the airport and the city centre) and their usual first stop in the city is O’Connell St, followed by Trinity College – this is the stop for Grafton St and Temple Bar.

    It’s easy to find the AirCoach at the airport. As you exit the arrival hall look to the left and you should spot them. They’re usually blue although some are moving billboards so it may be advertisemet-filled, but it’ll still have the name on the sides of the bus.

    * Update 2 *

    The information given by Woof is off at many levels. The bus that he’s talking about is AirLink (either bus 747 or 748) service run by Dublin Bus.

    Bus number 748 goes from airport to Heuston. It’s runs every 30 mins, not 5! And the ticket is 6 Euro one way, not 7 Euro. That bus in inconvenient. Even bus number 747 would have been a better option, and it runs from airport to O’Connell St.

    The benefits of taking AirCoach rather than AirLink is that AirLink will stop at Trinity College, thus closer to Temple Bar and Grafton St area. Indeed even if you stop at O’Connell St, it’s not far to walk (5-10 minutes).

    Another advantage is, AirCoach is a 24 hours service bus. During the day the buses go every 10 minutes, early morning and late evening every 20 minutes, and between midnight and 4am, one every hour. Because they have 2 bus routes that go by the city : Ballsbridge or Leopardstown routes, it means anyone going to city center can take either one. Often that translates to less waiting time for the next bus into the city center. E.g. during day time, bus for Ballsbridge leave after 5 minutes of the bus to Leopardstown, and the next bus to Ballsbridge is 5 minutes after the bus to Leopardstown, it’s nearly every 5 minutes for a bus to the city center.

    And a taxi doesn’t cost up to 40 Euro for the city center. At that price, one can even be in Donnybrook or Ballsbridge!

    It typically costs approx 25 euro but you are probably better off to get the blue coach, they run regularly and it is difficult to miss them outside arrivals. Its a dedicated bus route from airport to city centre and back again. It does depend on what time of day you arrive but journey time should be a half hour approximately.

    Depends on what you like but Temple Bar area is usually buzzing but don’t forget to pick up some pamphlets/leaflets in the airport or tourist office.

    Enjoy your stay :)

    20-30 euro, it depends on the time and how many bags you have with you!
