  You may be. It’s always safer to book in advance. I use a site called hostelworld.com you can book hostels aorund the world through the site and they do a good job with recommendations and email reminders too.

  Yes, this is the time of year when hostel accommodation is hard to come by in Dublin, particularly at the weekends. Try a little outside of Dublin city centre, you might have better luck. Rathmines is close, as is Ranelagh.
