Next autumn, me and several of my friends have planned to go to Dublin for a long weekend. But, only one of my friends will be 18 at this point, the rest of us will be 17, and another will only be 16. None of us are drinkers, but we were looking forward to visiting the old pubs in Dublin for the Irish music and the whole traditional setting; but we’re worried that because we’re almost all under the drinking age – would we manage to even get into these pubs? :/
Also, my best friends aunt, uncle and cousin live in Dublin – that’s another reason why we chose there…
where else in Ireland can anyone suggest…?

ummm there really is no point in visitin’ an irish pub unless you are gonna get at least a pint. However a holiday is what you make of it.

If your under the legal drinking age, theres a huge chance the under-agers will be asked to leave the premises after a certain time(Could be 9pm, not sure) even if your not drinking, especially in Dublin, and you need photo ID to get into some places, they’re quite strict about that these days. You might find a pub that isn’t strict but theres not many of them in the city.

There is no way you or your friends will be served in dublin pubs thats the one thing pubs are looking for now because there is so much under age drinking going on and if pubs are caught serving under age drinkers they will be fined up to £8000

Probably not – what doorman in his right mind would believe you when you say ‘we won’t be buying alcohol, honest!’
By law, anyone under 18 has to leave the pub at 9pm now.
I **** to break it to you, but there aren’t that many old pubs left in Dublin that do the trad music. You need to head west …..Galway or some of the villages on the coast where they are a little more lax about the laws of the land.

Honestly you’re better off waiting till you’re all 18, you won’t get into any pubs or clubs in the centre, you’ll be turned away at the door, some bouncers are even at the door around 6pm
You’ll have to leave pubs at 9 even if you are not drinking and some pubs in the city do not allow underagers in at all, purely for safety and so as not to risk their licence
You won’t be allowed into the likes of comedy gigs either
Besides if you wait till you’re older, it will be much more fun, not to mention you’ll all be older and wiser

You’d be allowed in bars (until 9 anyway) but in Dublin, there aren’t really any traditional pubs. There might be a few touristy ones, but nothing authentic. An example would be Johnnie Fox’s which is outside Dublin City.
There’s loads of other stuff you can do in Dublin though. I wouldn’t rule out going just because there aren’t any traditional pubs.

If its a traditional experince you’re after then the west/south west is where you should be headed, Look into places like Kerry, Galway, Clare( a personal fave) and even Sligo. The people are much more easy going down there so you’re more likely to get served in the pubs.

you will not have trouble going to the old pubs in dublin as long as you stick to soft drinks you will be let into the pubs in the afternoons not at night
there is lots to do here for young people so I am sure that you will all have a good time
